Péter Wolf's Jazz Preludes on CD – Performed by József Balog at concert
One year ago, Péter Wolf's Jazz Preludes, a collection of 24 piano pieces, was included in our catalogue. This series is in fact a continuation of another collection, the earlier Wolf-Temperiertes Klavier, a volume of 24 pieces published in 2018.
The classical references are obvious in both series, but the Jazz Preludes, even by their title, claim not only to continue the tradition of famous preludes from earlier periods of music history (Bach, Chopin, Debussy), but also to be linked to the 20th century history of jazz. These character pieces in different moods evoke the many faces and styles of jazz, from boogie-woogie to Latin melody, from ballad to virtuoso jazz piano playing.
Shortly before the release of the publication, a recording of the Jazz Preludes was made by József Balog, who is not only a dedicated performer of Péter Wolf's works, but whose playing inspired several pieces in the series. (The CD was released by Tom-Tom Records.) József Balog will perform on 9 February at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest the whole cycle, many of the pieces as first concert performance.
