World premiere in Huntsville – Máté Balogh's musical travel diary

Máté Balogh visited the city in Alabama back in 2019 for the premiere of his march "Alabama March," composed for the state's 200th anniversary. In Huntsville Suite, he transformed his experiences from that time into an acoustic form, resembling a 'musical travel diary.'

It features the little squirrels of a hill in Huntsville (1), the atmosphere of a real American steak party (2), the composer’s pistol shots fired for the first time in his life (3), the illustration of an ever-rising Jeep (4) and the experience of the author flying a small plane over the Tennessee River.
The new piece is characterized by Balogh's usual witty, grotesque style, in this case, expressed in a light-hearted American manner, as indicated by the titles of the movements.
1. Chips & Chips at Monte Sano
2. Medium-Well at the Myers
3. Last Resort Guns
4. Higher the Roof, Curtis!
5. Spencer-Flight
The work was commissioned by the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra in 2024. The orchestra will be conducted by Gregory Vajda at the premiere on 21 March.
