Premiere of the Violin Concerto by Balázs Kecskés D.
’We live in an age full of impulses. We encounter countless stimuli and impacts every day. We immerse ourselves in a book, we receive an email in the meanwhile, read it on our phone, and, since we are at it already, we also check the news. Our sense of time has also changed. We have grown used to the fact that we can listen to a motet by Pérotin, an aria by Mozart, and a song by Katy Perry one after the other – even if we rarely do it in this order. Even in films, the most popular genre of the 21st century, we may not enjoy primarily the story, it is the visual, sonic, and dramaturgical events following one another that affect us in some way. … In my violin concerto, I tried to grasp something of this film-like character. I was inspired in my composition by film gestures, and video and audio editing technique. … The piece is shaped by the fragmented nature of 21st century existence, as well as the violin concerti of earlier periods. From Beethoven to Tchaikovsky, from Brahms to Britten and Bartók, countless composers composed memorable violin concerti – my love for these works is in my concerto.’ – says the composer about his new work.
